Prayers for South America

THE TIME OF HARVEST

Isao Numata  (1936-1995)

Today we are holding a Makuya Pentecost meeting in Maringá, Brazil. I am  glad to see new buds sprouting now in South America Makuya. Maringá is located halfway between São Paulo, Brazil and Asunción, Paraguay. While riding on a bus all the way from Sáo Paulo, I felt that Maringá was very far. But all of you drove over 400 miles to attend this short one-night Pentecost meeting. I thank God for your earnest faith that  thirsts for Christ's life above all else.

Prof. Ikuro Teshima prophesied in 1950: "The day will come when human beings will perish for their own sins. However, a small number of people will miraculously survive.  The remnants will see a rainbow glowing from the Andes to the Pacific Ocean." Several months later, the powerful Holy Spirit was poured out upon sixty people during the biblical convocation in Aso, Japan.

Meditating on these words, I believe that in thirty or forty years, the day will come when a holy convocation of the Original Gospel will be held at the foot of the Andes Mountains. Today, I feel the sprout of faith that will realize this prophecy.

Wishing to Be the Fertilizer

Nine years have passed since I came to South America to spread the Original Gospel. A time of harvest is nearing now, though I do not know if the crops will be plentiful. I thank God for showing me today a new generation growing.

I have experienced both joy and sorrow over these nine years of struggle. Yet, I do not feel that my days were so difficult. My love for South America is so great that it has compelled me to travel widely across this continent and convey the gospel. I have taken great pleasure in this and lived to my heart's content. I thank God that He has allowed me to live in this vast land of South America to the fullest for these nine years.  God will surely bear plentiful crop here, and I am very grateful.

I will return to Japan soon, and you will no longer see me in South America. "Unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain" (John 12:24), said Jesus Christ. I gladly want to be the fertilizer for Terra Rossa (rose-colored earth), so that the South American soil will bear a new crop.

I once declared that I wanted to live in South America for the rest of my life. Alas, my wish will not be realized. Yet, I will continue to pray for a rich harvest that will multiply thirtyfold and a hundredfold in South America.

Let us pray that  Christ's abundant life may dwell within us today at this Pentecost meeting. Let us  also dream that people will soon gather from all corners of the world in a holy convocation held at the foot of the Andes.

Awareness of Being a Remnant

Today at this Makuya Pentecost meeting, I want our souls to be kindled by the Holy Spirit, just as our forerunners were transformed into completely different people by the Holy Spirit. Christ's life makes us willingly fall to the ground to be the fertilizer. I wish to be filled with such life.

Prof. Teshima once said, "I am one of the few remnants who bear the holy history of Christ." I would like all of us to have this same awareness. Now, let us pray vigorously: "Heavenly Father, please use me until my body returns to dust in order for Your will to be done in South America and in the world. Please pour Your life into us!"
